La iniciativa cuenta con el apoyo de varios partidos en el Congreso.
El representante liberal y autor del proyecto, Juan Carlos Losada, aseguró que es sumamente importante y necesario la suspensión de este tipo de practicas en el país.
«Este proyecto pretende armonizar y actualizar la legislación con la evolución jurisprudencial relativa al relacionamiento entre los seres humanos y los animales, la cual –hoy en día– reconoce a los animales como verdaderos seres sintientes», indicó Losada en entrevista con Semana Noticias.
En la tarde de este lunes, la Cámara de Representantes aprobó con 24 votos a favor y 3 en contra, el primer debate del proyecto de ley que prohíbe las corridas de toros en Colombia.
En la iniciativa también se contempla que el Gobierno establezca programas de reconversión para quienes dependen económicamente de esta práctica.
El proyecto que pasará a discusión en la plenaria de la Cámara, también contempla que se prohíban las novilladas, becerradas y tientas.
