Nelson Menjura, abogado del exparamilitar Salvatore Mancuso, reveló en RCN Radio que, una vez se concrete su liberación, Mancuso iniciará una serie de reuniones con otros cabecillas y exmiembros de las extintas Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC).

El objetivo principal de estas reuniones será la localización de alrededor de 400 fosas comunes situadas en zonas fronterizas con Venezuela y en el departamento de Córdoba.
Menjura detalló que esta estrategia para encontrar los restos de personas desaparecidas se intensificará tras la libertad de Mancuso. El exparamilitar tiene previsto varios encuentros en diferentes centros carcelarios, donde aún se encuentran detenidos exmiembros de las AUC, para identificar los puntos exactos donde podrían estar ubicadas estas fosas comunes. «Es una actividad titánica. Mancuso ha mencionado que alrededor de 200 a 400 fosas comunes se están tratando de ubicar en la zona de frontera con el vecino país de Venezuela, en regiones donde los paramilitares arrojaban los cuerpos o los enterraban en fosas comunes», explicó el abogado.

Asimismo, Menjura comentó que la búsqueda y recuperación de los restos de las víctimas se reanudó tras la llegada de Mancuso a Colombia y se espera que estas labores judiciales se aceleren con su salida de prisión. Además, indicó que Mancuso, en su papel de gestor de paz, mantiene su disposición para colaborar en el proceso de acercamiento con diferentes grupos armados y bandas criminales. «Todos los grupos están llamados, no hay distinción, no hay selección, quien quiera que Salvatore Mancuso sirva como intermediario, como facilitador en pro de desmovilizarse allá estará Mancuso conversando con ellos», manifestó Menjura.
Es importante destacar que todos estos encuentros que Salvatore Mancuso sostendrá serán llevados a cabo con el previo aval del Gobierno y de las autoridades judiciales correspondientes. Menjura enfatizó que Mancuso está dispuesto a colaborar de manera eficaz con los magistrados de Justicia y Paz, de la Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz (JEP), y con otras autoridades que lo requieran una vez se haga efectiva su libertad.

Salvatore Mancuso regresó a Colombia el 27 de febrero de 2024, después de cumplir una pena en Estados Unidos desde 2008. Su retorno se dio tras una invitación del presidente Gustavo Petro para que se convirtiera en gestor de paz. Sin embargo, su futuro como gestor de paz era incierto debido a los procesos judiciales abiertos en su contra, hasta que el Tribunal Superior de Bogotá ordenó su libertad, levantando las 57 órdenes de captura que tenía en su contra.
«Del postulado Salvatore Mancuso Gómez, segundo sustituir las 57 detenciones preventivas intramurales a Salvatore Mancuso por otras, sin esa connotación, con la obligación de suscribir la defensa premonitoria en la que le queden enumeradas las obligaciones y puntualizaciones en torno al componente de verdad y entrega de bienes», manifestó el magistrado José Manuel Parra.
La Sala de Justicia y Paz de Bogotá fundamentó la liberación de Mancuso en sus demostraciones de intenciones para trabajar por la paz del país. Menjura informó que, una vez se concrete la liberación de Mancuso, este llevará a cabo reuniones con otros cabecillas y exmiembros del extinto grupo paramilitar para ubicar las fosas comunes. La liberación está pendiente de un trámite administrativo de verificación en cuanto a las medidas de aseguramiento en el Instituto Nacional Penitenciario y Carcelario (Inpec).
Otty Patiño, alto comisionado de paz, aseguró en la misma cadena radial que es necesario reglamentar las tareas que cumplirá Mancuso como gestor de paz. «El Gobierno tiene la responsabilidad de proteger la vida del señor Mancuso, quien hoy, debido a su pasado, se considera una persona con alto riesgo, y también debido a que mucha gente teme que él revele información inconveniente», manifestó Patiño. Añadió que la gestión de paz de Mancuso debe ser un plan de trabajo acordado con el gobierno y basado en las posibilidades reales que él pueda obtener.
