Según Veloza, varias empresas multinacionales, incluyendo Chiquita Brands, Postobón y Coca-Cola, realizaron contribuciones voluntarias a las AUC, contradiciendo la narrativa prevalente de que estos pagos fueron realizados bajo coacción.
Veloza detalló cómo estas compañías no solo proporcionaron fondos, sino que sus aportes ayudaron a consolidar y perpetuar la violencia en la región bananera de Urabá. «Postobón y Coca-Cola también aportaron dineros», afirmó, subrayando la influencia significativa que tuvieron estos recursos en el fortalecimiento de los grupos paramilitares. Entre 1997 y 2004, Chiquita Brands canalizó 1.7 millones de dólares a las AUC, fondos que inicialmente fueron descritos como pagos extorsivos pero que, según Veloza, fueron contribuciones voluntarias para garantizar la seguridad y el funcionamiento sin interrupciones de sus fincas bananeras.
Además de Chiquita, Veloza mencionó a DOLE y otros actores locales, incluyendo empresas medianas y ganaderos, como participantes en la financiación de los paramilitares. Estas revelaciones han provocado una creciente preocupación sobre las posibles implicaciones legales para estas empresas, similar a la condena que Chiquita Brands enfrentó, obligándola a pagar 38.3 millones de dólares en indemnizaciones a las víctimas del conflicto armado.
