El presidente de Guatemala llamó este martes 17 de enero a la cordura a su homólogo colombiano, Gustavo Petro.
Giammattei aseguró que el Ministerio Público de su país está investigando al ministro de Defensa de Colombia, Iván Velásquez, y que en ningún caso se trata de una persecución penal.

Es importante recordar que el presidente Petro llamó en las últimas horas a su embajador en Guatemala después de que el Ministerio Público (MP, Fiscalía) del país centroamericano, advirtiera que pretende procesar a Velásquez por su papel al frente de la Comisión Internacional Contra la Impunidad en Guatemala (Cicig) entre 2013 y 2017.
“Voy a dejar que el presidente Petro siga cometiendo el error de un guerrillero, pero que es poco político. No voy a caer en el juego. Las diferencias entre las naciones deben ser resueltas por la vía diplomática para evitar que los conflictos escalen después a lugares donde ya es difícil salir”, aseguró el mandatario guatemalteco en entrevista con la Agencia EFE.
Horas después de conocerse la declaración, Gustavo Petro decidió responder y por medio de una publicación en su cuenta de Twitter escribió:
“Cordura en política significa luchar contra la corrupción. Quienes permiten que la mafia se apodere del estado solo conducen a la sociedad a al genocidio“, dice parte del trino del presidente.
