Se conoció que desde hace varios años el polémico abogado Abelardo De la Espriella tiene asignado un esquema de seguridad financiado por el Estado colombiano.
Esta información la dio a conocer él mismo a través de una carta que le dirigió a director de la UNP, Augusto Rodríguez, para renunciar a este esquema.
“He tenido conocimiento referente a que, debido a mi condición de opositor, la intención del actual Gobierno es retirarme el esquema de seguridad que me fue asignado hace ya un tiempo por la entidad a su cargo”, escribió en la misiva.

En el texto indica que a pesar de tener un sistema de protección privado, le parecía pertinente contar con la institucionalidad para reforzar su seguridad.
Las críticas no se hicieron esperar, varias personas en redes sociales han cuestionado que a pesar de tener los recursos suficientes, todos estos años ha preferido contar con un esquema financiado por el Estado colombiano.
