En una entrevista realizada por Semana a la senadora uribista María Fernanda Cabal se dieron a conocer los detalles.
La parlamentaria mencionó algunos hechos que estarían poniendo en “riesgo su vida”, pues reveló que hace un mes el director de la Policía, general Luis Vargas, le informó que en medio de un operativo hecho en Chocó, se descubrió que un cabecilla del ELN tendría información íntima sobre ella y su familia.
Además, afirmó que “esto es producto de una acción de la fuerza pública, entre Ejército, Fiscalía y Policía, donde se revela esta información”. Tras estas declaraciones, Semana publicó un artículo exponiendo que las “las amenaząs a María Fernanda Cabal son muy serias”.

La congresiata le expresó a la directora de esa revista, Vicky Dávila, que el general Vargas le había indicado no revelar nada y así poder adelantar las investigaciones, pero luego del comunicado entregado, el fiscal Francisco Barbosa la citó con el fin de anunciarle que seis capturados de “La Nueva Marquetalia” confesaron haber estado haciéndole seguimiento a ella y a su esposo el ganadero Félix Lafaurie.
Así mismo, se dio a conocer que este grupo tendría información sobre un supuesto atentado que se estaba preparando contra Lafaurie en la Feria de Buga.
La parlamentaria se refirió a quienes podrían ser los autores de las amenazas y dijo: “cualquiera que sienta que uno es una amenaza, que siente que lo que uno dice va en contravía de sus propósitos” y aseguró que si está involucrado el ELN es porque el comunismo estaría detrás de todo ello.
Además aseguró que todos los seguimientos contra ella se propiciaron cuando le hace «frente a esa izquierda depredadora” refiriéndose al momento en que se presentó la moción de censura en contra del ministro Diego Molano.
