La coordinación de esta importante audiencia estará a cargo de la juez 44 del circuito de conocimiento de Bogotá, Sandra Heredia. Es crucial destacar que, durante el desarrollo del juicio, Uribe podrá defenderse en libertad.
La acusación contra Uribe surge luego de una exhaustiva revisión por parte del fiscal primero delegado ante la Corte Suprema de Justicia, Gilberto Iván Villarreal, quien asumió el caso por reparto. En este contexto, el fiscal Villarreal ha ordenado el traslado de tres testimonios claves al proceso actual: Carlos Enrique Vélez Ramírez, exparamilitar; Juan Guillermo Monsalve, otro exparamilitar, y Deyanira Gómez, exesposa de Monsalve. Estos testimonios fueron rendidos durante el juicio oral contra Diego Cadena, exabogado de Uribe. Además, se practicaron dos nuevas declaraciones tanto a Monsalve como a Gómez con el objetivo de aclarar dudas señaladas en procesos judiciales previos.
La decisión de llevar a juicio a Uribe Vélez fue adoptada luego de desestimar dos solicitudes de preclusión presentadas por fiscales diferentes. Las juezas penales del circuito consideraron que existían pruebas suficientes para continuar con el caso.
