El pesista colombiano de 22 años, ganó la medalla de oro en el campeonato Panamericano de Mayores en su categoría de los 96 kgs.
El nacido en Cartago (Valle del cauca), se alzó con la presea dorada en la cuarta jornada del Campeonato Panamericano de Mayores realizado en República Dominicana, del 18 al 25 de abril.
Con un consolidado de 393 kg, el deportista colombiano se colgó una presea de plata (modalidad arranque) y una dorada (modalidad envión) para obtener el título en el país caribeño.
Rivas, completó un registro de 180 ks en arranque (snatch) y 213 kg de envión (clean & jerk), y así superar al canadiense Boady Santavy que declinó su ultimo levantamiento al conocer el movimiento valido de Rivas en su ultima salida a la plataforma.
Con este resultado, Rivas confirma su participación en los próximos JJOO Tokio 2021 y así parte como uno de los favoritos para sumar una nueva presea olímpica para Colombia en halterofilia.
La delegación cafetera que ha estado participando en el país centroamericano suma una cantidad importante de medallas, confirmando el favoritismo histórico de Colombia como potencia en esta disciplina.
